Grégoire is a chef who blends elegance with conviviality - values you'll find both in his restaurant La Rencontre and on your plate. His homemade cuisine celebrates local producers, from fresh vegetables to regional wines, with creativity and care.
A come back to Montreuil-Bellay, Anjou
After earning a vocational diploma in culinary arts and a specialization in restaurant desserts, Grégoire gained experience in renowned kitchens, including the gastronomic restaurant Le Logis de Pompois near Thouars.
He then spent a season in Corsica followed by seven years in Switzerland, where he rose through the ranks - from pastry chef to head chef in several Lausanne establishments.
La Rencontre, a meaningful homecoming
With over 10 years of experience in France and Switzerland, Grégoire chose to return to Anjou — specifically to Montreuil-Bellay, where his maternal great-grandparents once lived.
La Rencontre is more than a restaurant: it’s a place to enjoy quality, generous, and heartfelt cuisine. Driven by a spirit of sharing, Grégoire even cultivates his own vegetable garden, which he visits each morning with joy.
He looks forward to welcoming you to La Rencontre - a name that speaks volumes.
Before Grégoire took over the establishment, it was known as L’Hôtel Moderne. His maternal grandfather, Romain, worked there from the age of 14, between 1948 and 1960.
Later renamed Hostellerie Saint Jean, it was in this very place that Romain met Louisette - Grégoire’s grandparents.
This meaningful family story inspired the new name: La Rencontre - “The Meeting.”
